Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Generally mild, or warm south

Tuesday
Low pressure is centred over southern Iberia, whilst a slow moving frontal system extends across southern Spain and the south & east of France, where widespread heavy rain will be prolonged.
Some heavy bursts also affect north-western Italy and Switzerland. A few showers near coasts of southern Italy, but much of the Italian Peninsula and Greece will be dry and warm, highs 18 to 20C. Extensive dry weather for eastern Europe, under the influence of high pressure over Russia. Plenty of sunshine for Poland, Hungary and Romania.
Scattered showers for north-west France, but dry toward the Low Countries, and much of Germany, mild at 10 to 13C. Fronts push north across Scandinavia bringing rain or mountain snow to Norway and Sweden. Mild in southern Sweden at 7 to 9C, but colder in the far north, near or below freezing. Cloudy with drizzle for Finland.

Wednesday
Low pressure over south-western Europe continues to bring very unsettled conditions to Spain and southern France, with some prolonged torrential rain, particularly around the Pyrenees. Bright with scattered showers for Portugal and south-west Spain. Outbreaks of thundery rain extend north across France, and it will be windy in the south, although warm at 17C. Locally frequent rain in north-west Italy, but mainly dry further south and around the Adriatic.
Plenty of dry weather across central and eastern Europe, and generally mild thanks to a southerly airflow, highs 11 to 13C for Germany and Poland, 17C for Greece. High pressure remains across Russia, bringing fair but chilly weather, temperatures near zero. Some rain for Finland, and showers for western Norway. Dry elsewhere across Scandinavia. Cold in the far north, but fairly mild around the Baltic.
