Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Wet and windy tonight for France & northern Spain

Tuesday
A dry day for much of Spain and Portugal, temperatures 17C in south-western Iberia. A few showers around the Biscay coast, and rain arrives later in the north-west. Thunderstorms affect the western Mediterranean. Areas of showers for the Italian peninsula and Sicily. Low pressure centred over the southern Balkans brings some heavy rain and thunder to Greece . Dry and very warm around the Aegean Sea, up to 25C. Fronts bring persistent heavy rain to Romania and Ukraine, snow over the mountains.
Cooler air extends across central and eastern Europe, temperatures just 6 to 10C for Poland and Hungary, and only 4C in Germany. A little rain or a few showers across central parts of the continent, some snow for the hills in northern Germany. Largely dry across France, a few showers near the coasts in the west & north. High pressure over northern Scandinavia brings cold easterly winds across the Baltic, temperatures widely near or below freezing. A few showers in eastern Sweden, also southern Finland, but most of the region will be dry.

Wednesday
Heavy rain sweeps into western France and northern Iberia on Tuesday night, accompanied by strong and gusty winds. A few showers in Portugal, but much of Iberia becomes dry and bright as the rain band fades from the north. Warmest near south-eastern Costas at 20C. Rain moves quickly across France in the morning, turning to snow into the western Alps, and followed by blustery showers around the Biscay coast. Areas of showers across the Mediterranean. Unsettled for Greece, Bulgaria and Romania as low pressure brings heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Rain affects the Low Countries and western Germany, whilst further east should stay dry. The fair weather extends across the Czech Republic, eastern Alps and the northern Balkans. A few showers for coastal areas around the Baltic, some spreading inland across Sweden. Much of Norway is dry. Remaining very cold with easterly winds across Scandinavia as high pressure remains centred toward the north.
