Location: Indonesia
The Barat is a squally and strong west to north-westerly wind occurring from December to February along the northern coasts of the Celebes (Sulawesi), Indonesia. The Barat is essentially a feature of the NE Monsoon period over SE Asia, but is deflected and channelled by numerous islands and gaps of the archipelago and notoriously known for rapid changes in wind-speed and direction. Peak gusts can be quite violent, causing significant damage.
