Moldova's climate is moderately continental, with some modification of conditions by the Black Sea. The summers are warm and long, with temperatures averaging between 20°C and 25°C, but can sometimes reach 40°C during heat waves. The winters are moderately cold and dry, with daytime January temperatures between -4°C and -7°C, and minima often far below -10°C.
Annual rainfall, which ranges from around 600 millimeters in the north to 400 millimeters in the south, can vary greatly; long dry spells are not unusual, especially in the summer. The heaviest rainfall occurs in early summer and again in October; heavy showers and severe thunderstorms are common, mostly near the coastline of the Black sea. Because of the irregular terrain of Moldova, heavy summer rains often cause erosion, flash floods and river silting.
Required clothing:
Lightweight clothes with accasional rainwear is advised for the summer months, Medium- to heavyweight is neccesary during the winter. Wherever you go, take a sweater for cool evenings.
Koeppen-Geiger classification:
