Rain for northern Spain; dry & warm south-west Iberia

Southern Spain and Portugal will be dry and warm, highs 30C. Heavy rain and thunder affects southern France spreading east into the western Alps and northern Italy during the day, although southern Italy stays dry. A cold front extends back across northern Spain, producing rain along Biscay coasts. Showery and cool conditions for northern France and the Low Countries, 17C. A risk of thundery showers for the southern Balkans and mainland Greece. High pressure centred around eastern Ukraine brings fair weather to much of eastern Europe. Hot around the Black Sea, topping 30C. A warm southerly flow pushes temperatures to 25C in Poland. Unsettled with showers or persistent rain across Scandinavia, heaviest for Sweden and southern Finland. Central & northern Norway should escape dry.

Low pressure over the western Mediterranean produces heavy rain for the Balearics and Italy. Much of Spain and Portugal are likely to be dry - cool in the north, but up to 30C in the south-west of Iberia. A brisk westerly breeze for northern Europe although much of France, Germany and the Low Countries should stay dry. A frontal system spreads in north-west France later, bringing thickening cloud and rain. A few showers around North Sea coasts. South-eastern Europe stays hot and dry, 28 to 32C for Greece , Romania and Hungary. Rain reaches Croatia and Slovenia, and also affects the southern Alps. A risk of rain for Poland, and some heavy bursts likely for the Baltic states, Finland and northern Sweden. Showery in south-west Norway.
