Fresher temperatures north; windy southern Scandinavia


Wednesday
High pressure lies across north-western Europe, whilst low pressure is over eastern Scandinavia. A long frontal zone influences central-southern Europe. Portugal stays dry, sunny and very warm. Reaching 30 to 35C for the Algarve and southern Spain. Thunderstorms breaking out for east and perhaps northern Spain, plus the Pyrenees and southern France. A zone of thunderstorms also breaks out across the Alps through the day. Dry and very warm for Italy, the Balkans and Bulgaria, highs 26 to 30C. Risk of thundery rain developing for Romania, Slovakia and western Ukraine. Fresher across northern Europe, temperatures in the range 17 to 22C. Partly cloudy for northern France, perhaps a drizzly shower. Some sunshine for the Low Countries and much of Germany. Blustery winds for Denmark and Norway, although largely dry. Outbreaks of rain spread from southern Sweden to the Baltic states. Showery and cool for northern Scandinavia.


Thursday
Hot and sunny for much of Spain and Portugal. Thunderstorms breaking out for northern Spain. A zone of thunderstorms is again likely to develop for southern France and the Alps, also extending to the Balkan states and areas toward the Black Sea. However, Greece and Italy should escape dry and sunny - temperatures approaching 30C. Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia may also escape with a dry day, highs 23 to 26C. High pressure resides across northern Europe, with dry conditions for Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and southern Scandinavia. Temepratures rising to 25C across northern France and Belgium may trigger afternoon showers. Cool and showery weather continues for northern Scandinavia, with some longer periods of rain possible.
